Stanmore's got my back

This week has been very eventful. I went to see our consultant at Stanmore and he said that he’d offer follow-up appointments after I get my surgery. We were worried about what his response would be, but he quickly put us at ease, telling us that he’d be happy to support us along the road, despite the fact that the NHS doesn’t currently provide the procedure. As it’s a new surgery, I hope that my results would be very beneficial to his research and hopefully that will help other sufferers in the future as it could aid the reintroduction of VBT in the UK. It was really nice to get this reassurance and I’m feeling a lot more confident about the near future.

Also, last weekend, a boy in my year threw a party for his GCSE in enterprise and gave all takings to me to go towards my fundraising for my surgery! I went to the party and it was amazing; everyone had a great time and I loved his Tiki-inspired garden. It was huge and he had a fantastic house; it felt like something out of an American movie. It was very cold though – I’m very glad that we missed the snow! I think that he’d make a very good club-promoter.

The other big news this week is that we’ve launched our next event. On the 15th of April, there is going to be greyhound racing at the Harlow Dog-track. They’ve kindly donated tickets for us to sell and all proceeds will be going to my fund. Tickets cost £5 and can be purchased through our GoFundMe page. It will be lots of fun for the whole family and is at the normal admission price plus you get a free drink! I hope to see you there :)

Courtesy of these latest events, my fund has comfortably pushed over the £12,000 mark!

A safe bet

It’s been a really exciting week this week. We’ve had our first major event and it was amazing. Over 100 people came to our race night and everyone had a great time. At home, dad made five crates worth of poppadums by hand and we had to carry them all to the venue. We arrived at 5:30pm and started to set up. I was left in charge of serving up the poppadums and mango chutney. It was messy work but was a lot of fun! It took about an hour and a half to set up, but it was well worth it.

As the guests started to pour in, my sister and her band played some songs and Brohmon pop up restaurant started to serve the most amazing curry. We all chatted and ate for a little while and then the main event started; the races. We watched eight different horse races on a massive screen and everyone placed bets on who they thought would win each time. At first everyone just watched and hoped that their horse would win quietly, but by the end people were standing on chairs and shouting at the screen – it was brilliant! It all lasted for about four hours including breaks for betting and music from my sister’s band and the amazingly talented Shakila; she’s been on TV and everything! Overall the night was a huge success and we raised just over £2800.

Tomorrow I’m going to see Dr. Gibson at Stanmore where I’m going to tell him that I’m going to go to Germany for my surgery. We’re not sure what he’s going to say so wish me luck! I’m quite scared because telling him about my surgery makes it all feel a lot more real and it scary. I’ll post an update next week telling you what happens.
